Welcome to the Center School

October 11, 2017

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year and our new Center School Webpage! As I begin my fifth school year as Center School Principal, it is exciting to reflect upon the continuous growth of our school community. We are currently a diverse elementary school made up of 393 students and 20 talented classroom teachers. Our amazing support personnel provide English as a Second Language, Title I, Reading, Guidance, School Adjustment and Special Education services to our students. We also have 16 teachers in training from Endicott College and 1 student teacher from Merrimack College working in our classrooms. We continuously strive to support our learners!

This school year we are also implementing Guided Math, Math Talks and the Foss Science Curriculum into our instructional repertoire. Center School is also the proud recipients of a three year 21st Century grant with FKO. This grant is focused on providing after school extended day math skills development and the support of our trauma sensitive students. This generous grant will make such a difference in the lives of many of our learners.

Our technology based learning resources and digitally based learning opportunities continue to grow at Center School. Parents and guardians should contact their child’s teacher for passwords and sign on directions for any of our school sponsored learning websites. While we are always focused on instruction and learning, we remain dedicated to nurturing our students’ social emotional well being through Social Emotional Learning activities. We are a Choose to Nice school, where acts of kindness are publicly recognized. Our playground has two Buddy Benches which have been installed to ensure no child ever feels left out on the playground. In celebration of each student’s unique

personalities we will soon dedicate a student centered Only One You rock Garden in the front of our school. This project was made possible through the support of our our amazing PTO and facilitated by our talented staff members Art Teacher Elisa Stopyra and Guidance Counselor Colleen Lawless.

Center School Cyclones will once again compete in Destination Imagination 2018, integrate our Ray of Sunshine school garden into our science instruction and create a new student made mural on our school stage. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @centercylones and our Center School PTO Facebook page to keep up with all of our current events.

Every accomplishment at the Center School is due to the shared efforts of our entire Center School community staff, friends and family members.  Thank you to everyone who makes Center School such a special place to learn!

Mrs. Jacqui Orphanos

Center School Principal
