The Safety Subcommittee focuses on ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. It reviews and recommends policies and procedures related to school safety, emergency preparedness, and risk management. The subcommittee collaborates with school officials, local public safety agencies, and other stakeholders to address safety concerns, enhance preventive measures, and promote a culture of safety throughout the district.

The Finance Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the financial planning, fiscal health of the school district and contract negotiations with each bargaining units. Its duties include reviewing , monitoring expenditures and revenues, evaluating financial policies, and ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds. The subcommittee works closely with district administration to align financial decisions with educational priorities and long-term strategic goals.

The District Organization & Structure Subcommittee exists to review, evaluate, and recommend improvements to the systemic framework of the district. This includes the clear definition of leadership roles, the optimization of the organizational hierarchy, and the maintenance of modern, accessible communication infrastructures to ensure accountability to the students, staff, and the Peabody community.

The Athletics and Health Subcommittee of the Peabody School Committee is committed to promoting the physical, mental, and overall well-being of all students. The subcommittee focuses on strengthening athletic programs, encouraging student participation, and supporting initiatives that foster healthy lifestyles. By working closely with administrators, school staff, and the community, it helps ensure that students have access to safe, inclusive, and enriching opportunities that build teamwork, resilience, and lifelong wellness habits.
Building & Grounds

The Building and Grounds Subcommittee works with the Superintendent of Schools and the Facilities Director to address the needs of the school buildings and other property under the control of the School Department. Building conditions, upgrades, upkeep, specific need improvements are monitored by the Subcommittee and schedules of repair and projects are recommended by the Subcommittee and brought to the full School Committee for any necessary action. The Chief Financial Officer is also included in these discussions to address budgetary considerations.
Quality & Standards

The Quality and Standards Subcommittee develops, recommends, and updates policies which serve as the guidelines for the effective operation of the Peabody Public Schools. Policies are developed based on state and federal legislation as well as educational topics and needs. The Quality and Standard Subcommittee utilizes the policy services of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, the National School Board Association, and policies issued by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and other governmental agencies to formulate the policies governing the district. Policies specific to Peabody are also developed by the Quality and Standards subcommittee. All policies of the Subcommittee are brought to the full School Committee for any required action. The subcommittee also works closely with the superintendent to plan professional development events for the school committee and assist with the evaluation process of the superintendent.

The liaison represents the School Committee at relevant meetings, supports collaboration with the City Council and Legislative Delegation, and advocates for policies and resources that benefit students, staff, and the broader school community as requested by the full School Committee.
Parent & Student Advisory Liaison

The liaison meets on a regular basis with members of the Parent Advisory Board. The Parent Advisory Board is a group of parents consisting of one representative and one alternative elected by their respective schools and programs formed effectively communicate the issues and concerns of the parents of students to the members of the Peabody School Committee. It serves to maintain an open flow of communication and information to and from parents and the School Committee and Superintendent. The liaison meets with the members of the Student Advisory Board, a council formed pursuant to Massachusetts law (MGL chapter 71 section 38M) consisting of high five high school student representatives elected by their peers. The student board members select one member to serve as their chairperson and meet at least every other month during the school year with the full school committee to bring student concerns and issues to the Peabody School Committee. The liaison along with the faculty advisor serves to bring professional development opportunities to the Student Advisory Board and to assist if needed in any way with the presentation of the students agenda. The faculty advisor also works with the Student Advisory Board on preparation of their agenda.

Serve as the School Committee representative focused on special education interests and concerns across the district, fostering ongoing communication with SEPAC and with families, educators, administrators, and community stakeholders to help inform committee decision-making regarding special education services, student safety, programming, inclusion, and compliance with state and federal special education law. The liaison helps ensure that stakeholder concerns and feedback are heard, communication channels remain open, and required regulatory responsibilities are respected. Track compliance-related concerns and questions raised regarding accessibility, service delivery, timelines for evaluations and IEPs, and implementation of services; request administrative follow-up, clarification, or data in areas warranting review or improvement.
