Aim High…Together We Will Fly!

December 14, 2018

One of our important jobs as educators is to teach students leadership skills and responsibility.  This past week our fifth graders had the pleasure of helping sell items at the PTO school store. It was wonderful to see these fifth graders interacting with students, discussing items, and proudly representing the Brown School.  Some students, we decided, are going to be in sales when they grow up! 🙂

Another message that runs clear and true in the Brown School is a spirit of inclusion and acceptance.  We are all different, we all have different needs, and we are all working on different goals. This sometimes presents a challenge as to how to truly teach students when some very unexpected behaviors may derive from disabilities and/or trauma.  It is easy to say “fair is not equal” but living and breathing it can be tough. However, this is something I see the amazing Brown staff doing each and every day. With a patient smile and a calm and open heart, our teachers are delivering the message.  Our students are not only learning a true message about tolerance and acceptance, but they are also how to help and support one another. This encapsulates the Brown School motto, Aim High…Together We Will Fly!

Our motto, Aim High…Together We Will Fly! will be the centerpiece of our Artist in Residence Program with Rob Surette on January 7, 8, and 9.  We are so excited that Rob Surette will be visiting the Captain Brown Elementary School to work with our very diverse population and help us all create one large piece of artwork created from Legos.  Each and every student will have the opportunity to help Rob build this all inclusive masterpiece that will be proudly displayed at the Brown School. Rob’s message for students is to inspire hope, confidence, and true heroism through art.  Most importantly, Rob will help teach the message that together we will fly!

As always, we appreciate your support and understanding as we work together to ensure that all our students are learning and growing each and every day.  It is truly what makes Brown a unique and special school.

Best,

Mrs. King and Mr. Throwe
