Culinary Arts

Culinary Arts continues to be one of the fastest growing and most competitive industries in the United States and worldwide. Trained food services employees are needed in the hospitality, business, and healthcare sectors of the economy and include jobs in businesses as varied as hotels, restaurants, bakeries, corporations, hospitals, airlines, assisted living facilities, and cruise ships.

Culinary Arts is an instructional program that prepares individual students in food technology skills and customer relations while maintaining local sanitation codes in a safe working environment. The mission of the Culinary Arts program is to offer a high-quality multifaceted education that prepares students for employment in the food service industry or post secondary education. Students are exposed to a majority of basic tasks in actual live industrial conditions.

Training in safety and sanitation take place in the academic classroom and in shop. The main objectives are to develop basic hand tool techniques with a particular emphasis on knife skills and to expose students to production in each of the various workstations of the program’s restaurant and coffee shop. Valuable experience is gained in the planning and production of our annual Veteran’s Breakfast, program advisory dinner, and other high visibility catering opportunities such as community functions, and gala historic events.
