Learn About the Peabody PROMISE

The City of Peabody has formed a dedicated team focused on mental health, anti-bullying initiatives, and suicide prevention: Peabody PROMISE. Our goals are to break down barriers to accessing mental health resources, to elevate support for every member of our community, to strengthen the support systems available to our students, families, and educators—and to make a meaningful, lasting impact in the fight against bullying across Peabody Public Schools.

Peabody PROMISE consists of school officials, city leaders, parents, educators, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and residents working collaboratively to develop actionable and sustainable solutions. Several specialized Action Teams have been created and are actively working on education, communication, events, public outreach, policy review, and school-based structures and resources.

What is an Action Team?

An Action Team is a collaborative group of individuals who are interested in helping with a particular project on a short term basis. The group works together to achieve a common goal: to plan and conduct projects pertaining to bullying, mental health, positive youth development, and more.

Each Action Team meets for up to 12 weeks and completes work through meetings and via email. At the end of the scheduled meetings, you may decide to join another Action Team or take a break from participating.

The Steering Committee for the City of Peabody PROMISE understands that oftentimes people are unable or hesitant to enter into a long-term or open-ended commitment. An Action Team is designed to have a start and end date for each project in order for members to avoid feeling inundated with responsibilities or allow members to participate on various Action Teams.

If the Action Team that you are involved in requires youth participation, all members will be required to complete a CORI release form before attending a meeting.

The City of Peabody PROMISE appreciates the overwhelming response from individuals. There is a lot of work ahead of us, and we welcome anyone who would like to collaborate as a team and contribute to our community’s success.

Action Team Descriptions

  • Community Education Programs: The Community Education Programs Action Team will help support and educate Peabody residents on topics such as bullying, mental health, positive youth development, and more. The education will be done through in-person, hybrid, and online trainings, community messaging through traditional print and social media, and outreach through community events or organizations.
  • Communication and Engagement: The Communication and Engagement Action Team will promote the work and initiatives of Peabody PROMISE and other initiatives through traditional print and social media, and outreach through community events or organizations. One immediate project is focused on the Higgins Student Resource & Support Center. The goal is to explore how we can build trust between students and staff, and find ways to encourage middle school students to use the center.
  • Community Projects and Outreach: The Community Projects and Outreach Action Team will develop community-wide creative projects such as a campaign, mural, or photo project that will exhibit the assets of our community and foster understanding, empathy, and acceptance of individuals with diverse abilities. These projects should also highlight positive stories and achievements to reduce stigma as well as the role of Social Services in providing support to families outside of the school setting. Community outreach will focus on building connections for at-risk populations such as students with special needs, LGBTQ+, and youth experiencing housing insecurity and financial hardship.
  • School Based Structures and Resources: The School Based Structures and Resources Action Team will work to operationalize and communicate school policies, procedures, and resources that are available to students, parents, faculty, and community members. Projects may include identifying resources and programs that promote self-esteem, inclusion, mental health, and emotional well-being, creating a digital “How To Guide” for parents/caregivers, and assisting with faculty and staff training as needed.
