2016-17Sport Fees and Required Paperwork
Students who participate will be required to pay a user fee as the Higgins Middle School athletic program is unfunded. The fee is determined by the number of participants and the total cost of the program. There can be no waiver of the fee as the program must pay for itself. In addition, the Higgins fees do not count towards the family cap at the high school as they are separate programs.
All participants are required to provide the coach the following items in order to tryout.
1. Parent permission form
2. MA Concussion form
3. A valid physical (completed in the last 13 months)
Welcome to the Peabody Public Schools Athletic Program! We are proud of our program and are consistently among the top schools in the conference as well as having many athletes who are recognized for their academic prowess. It is our hope that your son or daughter will enjoy their participation at the Higgins Middle School and will choose Peabody High School as well as continue their participation in athletics when they reach grade nine.
This winter we will be offering boys and girls basketball for grade eight students. Since the Higgins athletic program is an unfunded athletic opportunity we need to make you aware of a mandatory athletic fee. There is no waiver for the Higgins athletic fee as it is not budgeted for. This fee is used to defray costs including; bus transportation, officials and any equipment that might be needed. We make every effort to keep costs down by using any equipment the high school programs can make available.
Please note! The Higgins basketball team is not affiliated with PBA or the Travel Team. We encourage players to continue to play with those programs as the Higgins team will practice once (on occasion twice) a week and play games within the Northeastern Conference. The Higgins team is for Higgins students only!
Tryouts will be held on September 13, 15, & 16 at 6:00 – 9:00 pm in the Higgins gym. Please be there at 5:30 for check in with complete paperwork. No paperwork…no tryout.
No athlete will be allowed to tryout or practice without the following documents (see attached);
a signed parent permission form,
a signed MA Concussion Report Form
a signed valid physical from physician (must be obtained from physician)
There will be a mandatory parent-athlete meeting for those selected to the grade eight basketball team at the Higgins Middle School cafeteria to review academics, behavioral and athletic requirements for your student-athlete and all user fees will be collected that night. You will be notified via mail the date of this meeting and the amount of the user fee in October.
