First PTO Meeting

An opportunity to hear about the PTO goals for the year. This is the "Kick Off" meeting of the PTO for the year.
Breakfast/Lunch ProgramBreakfast: $1.00 Milk: $0.50 Lunch: $3.00 (Free and reduced lunch prices are available to those that meet eligibility criteria. Forms are sent home at the beginning of the school year.)
Cultural EventsSpecial programs are brought into the school to enhance the curriculum and encourage interest in appreciation of the Arts, Humanities and Sciences. Programs that offer students hands-on experiences, are participatory, inspiring, and thought provoking in an entertaining way are sought. Look for information about them in our school newsletter, "Tiger Tales" or on the monthly calendar.
Family EventsActivities are planned for Burke School family to get together, socialize, and have fun. (Refer to the school calendar for further information about these events.)
Fund-raisersHelp raise funds that support the costs for field trips, cultural programs, classroom enhancements, recess play items, and school improvements.
Instrumental MusicMusic lessons are available to grade five students. Details are sent home with the students.
Parent Advisory Board (PAB)City-wide parent advisory board: A representative and alternate from all schools meet monthly with the School Committee Subcommittee to discuss system-wide issues.
Parent Visitation NightsAn Opportunity for parents to visit and conference with your child's teacher.
PTO - Box Tops for EducationOn every specially marked General Mills product, you will see a "Box Tops for Education" label. For every one of these that are sent into the company, the Burke School will receive money.
Room ParentA parent volunteer that works as a liaison between the teacher, parent and classroom.
School StoreThe fifth grade students, under parent volunteer supervision, operate a small school store for students to buy items (items priced between $0.25 to $1.00) during the breakfast club and lunch periods. These dates are marked on the Burke School monthly calendar.
Student CouncilRepresentatives from grade 5 meet monthly with the Principal, during lunchtime, to discuss projects/concerns at the school.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation WeekDuring the first week in May, parents and students organize to demonstrate their appreciation of the Burke teachers and support staff.
Tiger's Tales NewsletterA monthly newsletter published mid month, by the PTO, to keep you aware of happenings at the school. If anything special happens in your child's life, contact the newsletter coordinator by the first day of each month to have it included in the next publication of Tiger's Tales.
YearbookThe yearbook includes picture of all students, staff, teachers, and parents in the classroom and at various events during the year. Fifth grader have traditionally received a free yearbook. The yearbook is published at the end of the school year.
